West Ham United might have just been handed a big blessing in disguise ahead of the January transfer window, with one particular player keen to join Newcastle United.
The January transfer window opens in a little over four weeks time, and West Ham manager David Moyes has a lot of work to do.
The Hammers boss needs to sign a striker, a full-back who can operate on both sides and a solid defensive midfielder to provide cover for Edson Alvarez.
Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips is thought to be an option for the defensive midfield role, with Moyes keen to bring him to the London Stadium this winter.
I think that the 28-year-old would be a shocking signing for West Ham, most notably because of his horrific injury record.
So Newcastle signing him would actually do us a massive favour in my opinion…

West Ham could be handed late Christmas present in the January transfer window
90 Min claim that Newcastle want to sign Phillips and that the 28-year-old is keen to move to St James’ Park from the Etihad.
Thank the Lord for that! I don’t want Phillips anywhere near the London Stadium, and not because he’s a bad player but due to the fact that he’s so unreliable from a fitness perspective.
Man City signed Phillips from Leeds in the summer of 2022 for around £45 million (BBC).
He has really struggled for any kind of consistent game-time under Pep Guardiola though, and it has been claimed that he will leave the Etihad this winter (TNT).
Since the start of the 2020/21 season, the 27-year-old has missed 236 days of action due to shoulder, hamstring and calf injuries (Transfermarkt).
Moyes needs to bring someone physically robust into the club to compete with Edson Alvarez, and provide cover for him. Phillips is definitely not the man for the job in my eyes.
There may be some West Ham fans who will feel aggrieved if Newcastle beat us to the signing of the Manchester City midfielder in the January transfer window.
Not me though – I think that missing out on Kalvin Phillips to the Toon will be a blessing in disguise for the Hammers.
