West Ham United will now be trying to move some players on, after making eight brilliant new signings in the summer transfer window.

Julen Lopetegui and Tim Steidten have attacked the summer transfer window with real efficiency, and have been supported incredibly well financially by David Sullivan.

As a West Ham fan, I can’t remember a better transfer window, or one anywhere close to how good this one has been.

Lopetegui has made huge upgrades in pretty much every single position, but now the attention is turning to shifting on some of the deadwood.

Danny Ings, Maxwel Cornet and Kurt Zouma are all said to be surplus to requirements under Lopetegui, but now another big name has been linked with a summer exit from the Hammers.

And the player in question was one of David Moyes’s most trusted players.

The Hammers will be keen to raise some funds, and free up some salary space.

Not only because of new PSR guidelines, but so that Lopetegui can potentially bring in one or two more signings!

West Ham fans should now get prepared to say goodbye to one of our old stalwarts – someone who played a crucial role in our progress from relegation fodder to European champions.

According to a report from Give Me Sport, Czech midfielder Tomas Soucek will be open to leaving West Ham this summer if it becomes clear to him that he is ‘not at the forefront of Lopetegui’s plans’.

Signed on a permanent £18 million deal in the summer of 2020 (WHUFC.com) after a successful four-month loan spell, Soucek enjoyed an incredible first year and a half at the London Stadium.

The 29-year-old has regressed badly over the past couple of seasons though.

I just don’t see a way where he is able to succeed in Lopetegui’s system. The Czech Republic international’s worst attribute is his passing and lack of composure in possession.

With that in mind, it was a huge shock when he recently claimed that he is a player who thrives with the ball at his feet.

That just isn’t true. He’s incredibly awkward and clunky when he receives the ball and then subsequently when he’s in possession.

So how on earth will he be able to play a pivotal role in a team coached by a manager who wants to implement a possession-based playing style?

The answer to that question is simply that he won’t.

And I fully expect Tomas Soucek to leave West Ham sooner rather than later. Whether or not his exit will come in this window remains to be seen though.
