Don Hutchison absolutely raved about one West Ham United player in particular last night.
West Ham lost to Freiburg in the Europa League out in Germany yesterday, and Don Hutchison was on co-comms duty.
Hammers boss David Moyes was furious with the decision not to award his side a late penalty but in truth, he and his players only have themselves to blame.
The Scot has been heavily criticised by the West Ham fans this season. The defeat last night opened the door to yet more criticism, and rightly so.
Hutchison recently spoke out in defence of Moyes and the job that he’s doing at West Ham, but then completely contradicted himself on X with comments about the fact that football should be about entertainment for the fans.
He was well wide of the mark then, and he was at it once again last night…

Don Hutchison makes West Ham player of the year claim
Hutchison is clearly a very big fan of Edson Alvarez, as we all are. Moyes brought the Mexican to the London Stadium from Ajax for £35 million in the summer of 2023 (Sky Sports), and that fee now looks like an absolute bargain.
However, the former Hammer went slightly over the top when praising the 26-year-old, when speaking during TNT Sports’ broadcast of the game last night (Thursday March 8th, 8:03pm):
“Edson Alvarez, I think, will probably be player of the season, he’s been some signing for West Ham.”
Now, I agree with Hutchison in the sense that Alvarez has been a superb signing for us, but to say he’s been our best player is a massive overstatement.
The Hammer of the Year award will surely go to one of four players – Jarrod Bowen, Lucas Paqueta, Mohammed Kudus or Emerson Palmieri.
There surely wouldn’t be one single Hammers fan who would argue against that. Again, I’m not undermining Alvarez – he has been fantastic for us this seaosn.
However, Don Hutchison is well wide of the mark suggesting that the Mexico international has been West Ham United’s best player this season.
