‘Woeful’ David Moyes makes it very clear he was unhappy with 25-year-old West Ham man during Crystal Palace draw

David Moyes was left fuming with one West Ham United player in particular after our draw with Crystal Palace this afternoon.

West Ham drew 1-1 with Crystal Palace in the Premier League at the London Stadium today, and it was very much two points dropped as far as I’m concerned.

Hammers boss David Moyes would have been really annoyed behind closed doors that his side didn’t win the game, in spite of suggesting that he was happy with the point in the end.

It’s just so frustrating that we were completely in control of the game, before a truly shocking error from Konstantinos Mavropanos early on in the second-half allowed Odsonne Édouard to sneak in and equalise for the Eagles.

The 25-year-old has actually been pretty good for West Ham since moving to the London Stadium from Stuttgart for around £17 million in the summer transfer window (Reuters), aside from one poor bit of defending against Brentford a few weeks ago.

However, the Greece international made an absolutely awful mistake today that ended up costing us two points, and it was clear that Moyes laid the blame at the centre-back’s feet after the match…

David Moyes slams West Ham man after Palace draw

The Scot addressed the media after our frustrating draw with the Eagles this afternoon.

And Moyes had harsh words for Mavropanos, without naming him directly, as quoted by WHUFC.com:

“We had to make sure we didn’t concede. But we conceded and we let in a woeful goal. We move on and that happens.”

It really was an unforgivable error by the Greek defender, but one that he hopefully learns from.

We cannot afford to have players displaying such schoolboy lapses in concentration at this level, if we are to fight for a top seven finish this season.

Mavropanos is a very good defender, I have absolutely no doubts about that. However, he has to sharpen up quickly and start showing more consistency if he is to succeed with West Ham, after his howler against Palace today.
