What David Moyes very deliberately did in the 58th minute against Gent disproved talk about his West Ham future.

As the pressure increased on David Moyes at West Ham in recent months so too did the variety and frequency of claims and counter claims about the Scot.

Hammers fans will be well aware of the list of managers being linked with replacing Moyes this summer.

But there has also been talk that Moyes has made peace with the fact he will leave West Ham.

Rumours that he had more or less given up hope of keeping his job and was waiting for a payout were also prevelant.

Especially after the Scot made it very clear in a podcast that it ‘would not be the end of the world’ if West Ham sacked him.

Suggestions that Moyes has been going through the motions and is accepting of his fate have come against the backdrop of an increasing number of reports that the Hammers want Lille boss Paulo Fonseca to replace him and claims that West Ham will part ways with the manager even if he keeps the club in the Premier League and wins the Europa Conference League.

Opinion among some fans is fiercely divided on the matter of whether Moyes should stay beyond the end of the season.

But what Moyes very deliberately did in the 58th minute against Gent disproved talk about his West Ham future.

As Declan Rice rampaged up the London Stadium pitch on his way to scoring one of the great West Ham goals, Moyes was seen running along the touchline in unison.

When the ball hit the net the world’s biggest cantilevered roof was almost blown off the ground.

The roar was deafening but it was Moyes’ reaction which spoke volumes.

The way he ran along the touchline and was seen jumping, shouting and pumping his fists in the air towards the fans, the board and his family – for a good 30 seconds – was telling.

They were not the actions of a man who is ready or happy to leave or does not want to be here anymore.

But rather someone who still has the fire in his belly and desire to get the finest job he’s done since Everton back on the right path.

It was a very deliberate, sustained and rare outpouring of emotion from the often dour Scot.

If Moyes is not bothered about whether he stays at West Ham, he has a funny way of showing it after his touchline antics.

Judging by those celebrations West Ham will have to drag him out kicking and screaming this summer if they really do want to make a change.
