Maxwel Cornet just hasn’t worked out one little bit as a West Ham United player unfortunately.
West Ham boss David Moyes signed Maxwel Cornet from Burnley for around £17.5 million in the summer of 2022, but he has failed to make any kind of positive impact the London Stadium.
He was heavily linked with a move to Crystal Palace on deadline day earlier this month, but he decided to stay at the London Stadium in the end.
The £17.5 million that the Hammers paid for the Ivorian (Sky Sports) now seems like a complete waste of money.
Moyes clearly doesn’t fancy the 27-year-old, and whenever he is given a chance, he fails to impress, aside from the goal he scored away at Sheffield United last month.
He has missed out on match-day squads when he hasn’t been injured a few times this season already, but on Monday night his absence wasn’t really noticed by anyone…
Maxwel Cornet absence for West Ham went under the radar
The former Burnley man was nowhere to be seen during our clash with Brentford at the London Stadium two days ago.
He must realise that the end is nigh for him at the London Stadium. The fact that the likes of George Earthy and Ollie Scarles were included on the bench ahead of him tells us all we need to know.
Sure, he may have picked up a slight knock, but there has been nothing reported about an injury to Cornet.
The saddest indictment of Cornet’s time at West Ham is that not many of the club’s fans even noticed that he was missing on Monday night.
The one time that the Ivory Coast international was given a proper chance against Sheffield United recently, Moyes dropped him down to the bench immediately after for our next game. He must know that the gaffer has absolutely zero trust in him.
Maxwel Cornet has to leave West Ham in the summer transfer window for the good of his own career. The fact that his absence on Monday night went completely under the radar shows us his current standing at the London Stadium, and his future at the club is clearly very bleak indeed.
