West Ham United may no longer be able to sign Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah for a bargain fee.
According to BILD, Jonathan Tah had a release clause worth €18 million (£15 million) inserted into his contract with Leverkusen, but the chance for West Ham to activate that has now expired.

Hammers boss David Moyes really needs to bolster his central defensive ranks at the London Stadium before the summer transfer window slams shut.
So with that in mind, the fact that West Ham didn’t activate Tah’s release clause in time is really concerning…
West Ham United’s failure to meet Jonathan Tah deadline is a major concern
BILD reckon that the Hammers have missed the deadline to sign the Germany international for just £15 million.
That doesn’t mean that we can’t sign him but we won’t be picking him up for a bargain fee any more.
And that tells us all we need to know as far as I’m concerned – he won’t be coming to the London Stadium.

Perhaps Moyes was never interested in him, no one will ever know. I must say that I believe Tah would have been perfect for West Ham though.
Standing at 6ft 5in tall, the German is an absolute giant and seems to be perfectly suited to the Premier League. Bleacher Report once described him as an ‘outstanding’ defender.
He is incredibly strong in the air and tenacious in the tackle, with plenty of experience in playing at the very highest level.
Unfortunately for us though, it seems as though Jonathan Tah won’t be joining West Ham in the summer transfer window, and certainly not for a bargain fee. What a shame.
