West Ham United tried extremely hard to sign Jhon Duran from Aston Villa in the summer transfer window.

Earlier this summer, West Ham were prioritising a move to bring Jhon Duran to the London Stadium from Villa Park, but Aston Villa were making it incredibly hard for us to get a deal done for the South American attacker.

It was actually reported that West Ham had agreed personal terms with Jhon Duran, but meeting Villa’s demands for him obviously proved to be more tricky.

Julen Lopetegui ended up signing Niclas Fullkrug from Borussia Dortmund instead, but many fans wished the West Ham head coach would’ve pushed harder for Duran.

It seemed at one point that the Hammers had a deal for Duran almost wrapped up, especially after the striker did the famous crossed Hammers sign during a livestream.

So do we have any chance of signing him at some point in the future?

The Colombia international has begun the 2024/25 season on fire, with two goals in three games for Aston Villa.

His form has left the Hammers fans thinking what might have been had we signed him.

What does the future hold for the 20-year-old at Villa Park though?

Well, it’s not good news for West Ham.

Monchi has been speaking about Duran and how he’s viewed at Villa Park, as quoted by the Evening Standard.

The Spaniard said, There are no fewer than 40 clubs who want Duran. But Emery is very confident with Jhon. He thinks Duran he can become one of the best strikers in the world. He wanted to leave, yes. Just because he wants to play, normal. But now it’s all good, he’s happy.

West Ham should have signed Jhon Duran

The young Colombian hitman has absolutely everything that we are lacking at West Ham right now.

He possesses explosive pace, exceptional movement, is incredibly strong and has a ferocious shot on him.

We all witnessed first hand just how good Duran is, when he scored the winner for Aston Villa at the London Stadium in the Premier League opener last month.

The Aston Villa striker would have taken the Hammers to a whole new level entirely, with his blistering pace.

It’s something that we desperately lack through the middle right now.

West Ham will end up regretting not pushing harder to sign Jhon Duran. After Monchi’s comments about what Emery thinks of Duran, we won’t have any chance of signing him now.
