West Ham striker Gianluca Scamacca has sent a message and picture from his hospital bed after a knee operation.
It is fair to say Gianluca Scamacca’s debut season at West Ham has been a massive anti-climax.
There were flashes of the Italian forward’s quality and finishing power in the opening few months of the season.
But Scamacca and David Moyes’ failure to make the move work thus far has been one of the biggest disappointments of the campaign following his £35m arrival from Sassuolo in the summer.
The 6ft 5in Italian has suffered illness and injury this season as West Ham battle to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

Scamacca had found himself an unused substitute in the Premier League for the Hammers since he returned from a knee injury suffered in January.
He lost his place in the Italy starting line-up.
And Moyes publicly criticised the striker’s output in training while being forced to deny there had been a falling out between the pair or that the striker is a ‘bad apple’ when speaking before the international break.
Scamacca was ruled out of recent matches with a new knee issue and West Ham’s manager said he hoped surgery would not be needed.
But Moyes confirmed in his pre-Arsenal press conference that Scamacca did indeed need an operation to address the problem.

It was obvious that any knee operation at this stage was always likely to rule Scamacca out for the last month and a half of the season. That has been confirmed in a new report from Football Italia.
Now West Ham striker Scamacca has sent a message and picture from his hospital bed after his knee operation.
Taking to his Instagram, the West Ham man posted a picture laying in his hospital bed with his tongue out and doing a rock and roll salute along with a caption in his native Italian saying: “Surgery done. No doubt I’ll come back stronger than before!”
