West Ham star Vladimir Coufal has defended David Moyes but made a brutal admission about his style of play.

In terms of results there is no much for West Ham fans to complain about right now.

After winning their first trophy in 43 years back in June, West Ham spent Christmas in the top six and have last 16 European football for a third successive season for the first time ever.

But there is no hiding the fact that there is a sizeable section of West Ham fans who want a more modern, progressive and attack-minded manager to replace David Moyes at the end of the season.

Those Hammers supporters feel Moyes, out of contract in the summer as things stand, is not getting the most out of his exciting first XI or playing the kind of dominant attacking football other coaches are implementing at the likes of Spurs, Aston Villa and Brighton.

Coufal defends Moyes but makes brutal admission about style

Moyes has always been a manager who favours substance over style. And that has served West Ham well.

But some supporters feel the team is good enough – like those other clubs mentioned – to achieve both.

Now West Ham star Vladimir Coufal has defended Moyes but made a brutal admission about his style of play.

Speaking to The Evening Standard Coufal says Moyes has done a great job.

But he also made it clear West Ham fans are entitled to their opinion while also admitting the team does not the best football.

‘We’re not playing the best football’

“I don’t read papers or discussion on Twitter,” Coufal said.

“Fans always have some opinions and they have the right to say what they want, but it is up to us on the pitch…

“He (Moyes) is doing an excellent job, he won the first trophy for West Ham after almost 50 years.

“He finished sixth and seventh in the League and now we are in seventh place. The results are behind him.

“We are not playing the best football sometimes but in terms of the results everything is right.”

On this subject, Jamie Carragher has warned West Ham fans they cannot have their cake and eat it.

Why can’t Hammers want style and substance?

There are strong arguments on both sides here.

But why shouldn’t West Ham – with the second biggest following in the country and being in the top 15 most lucrative clubs in world football – be allowed to want good football AND results.

If small clubs like Brighton can achieve it and similar sized clubs such as Spurs and Villa too then why not West Ham?

When supporters see the work being done by Unai Emery, Ange Postecoglou, Roberto De Zerbi and the likes of alleged West Ham target Xabi Alonso at Bayer Leverkusen, it’s easy to see why some want more.
