West Ham star Tomas Soucek named 7th best player in Europe but snubbed on 30-man Ballon d'Or list

West Ham United star Tomas Soucek has been named the seventh best player in Europe yet has somehow been snubbed on the 30-man Ballon d’Or list.

Soucek has been a revelation since signing for West Ham in a bargain £15 million deal.

The towering Czech was West Ham’s Hammer of the Year last season.

While Declan Rice and Michail Antonio often get the limelight for the Hammers, Soucek was West Ham’s most important and influential player.

Hammer of the Year Soucek became Premier League record breaker

And the statistics backed that up.

Soucek was also in the top 10 Premier League players statistically last season. Only Dimitri Payet, Scott Parker and Paolo Di Canio have managed that in West Ham’s Premier League history.

He set a new top flight record for aerial duels won and a new top flight record for distance covered.

Soucek stopped goodness knows how many goals with defensive headers and blocks, scored 10 Premier League goals and laid on one assist.

West Ham star named 7th best player in Europe

Now the West Ham hero has been officially ranked as the seventh best player in Europe.

Ahead of this year’s Ballon d’Or nominees being announced yesterday, Sky Sports released a list of the best players in Europe over the last 12 months based on their intricate Power Rankings.

And West Ham’s Soucek was seventh on the list. Lionel Messi topped the charts with Robert Lewandowski, Karim Benzema, Kylian Mbappe, Bruno Fernandes and Erling Haaland the only other players above Soucek.

Hammer snubbed for 30-man Ballon d’Or list despite being among Europe’s best over the last 12 months

“As the Ballon d’Or nominees are announced today – we look at the best players in Europe over the past 12 months based on Power Rankings,” Sky Sports said.

Soucek’s compatriot and West Ham teammate Alex Kral loved it, responding by saying “What a player Tomas Soucek.”

But it appears the so-called big club bias has once again come to the fore after Soucek was snubbed for the 30-man Ballon d’Or list of nominees.

Snub no surprise but how did Chelsea duo make list ahead of towering Tomas?

That’s despite the likes of Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta – not even the best right-back in London let alone the world – making the list.

Another Chelsea player, Mason Mount, made the list too despite being nowhere to be seen on the Sky Sports rankings and having scored just six goals last season and none this term.

West Ham fans won’t be in the least bit surprised of course.

The Hammers have seen the likes of Dimitri Payet and Paolo Di Canio snubbed for Ballon d’Or lists in times gone by despite them being comfortably among the top four or five performing players in world football at the time.
