Crysencio Summerville scored a great goal for the Netherlands against Japan on his World Cup debut.

Summerville was making just his third appearance for the Dutch national team and his first at a major tournament.

The West Ham star played on the right wing in a front three alongside Donyell Malen and Cody Gakpo.

Summerville normally likes to cut inside onto his stronger right foot, but he scored an Arjen Robben-like goal with his left.

He then ran straight to Manchester United and Netherlands legend Ruud van Nistelrooy to celebrate on the sidelines.

Summerville has now explained how Van Nistelrooy has helped him prepare for the 2026 World Cup.

What Ruud van Nistelrooy has done to help Crysencio Summerville

Summerville’s goal gave the Netherlands a 2-1 lead with less than half an hour to play at the Dallas Stadium.

Unfortunately for Ronald Koeman’s side, Japan salvaged a point by equalising for the second time in the 89th minute.

However, Summerville was still delighted with his individual performance, as he announced himself to the world.

“I felt joy and pride, I can’t really describe it,” he said. “It was a childhood dream come true! I think my family are all super proud. I’m thankful to God.”

Summerville also highlighted the impact of the Netherlands coach Van Nistelrooy’s training ahead of the World Cup.

Van Nistelrooy is considered one of the greatest goal scorers in Premier League history and has been teaching Summerville his tricks.

Summerville had 19 goals & 9 assists in the 23/24 Championship season! 🔥

The Man Utd legend’s work with Summerville has clearly paid off, as he produced a superb curled finish into the bottom left corner.

“Ruud and I work very closely together, especially on finishing,” he explained. “He’s given me a few tips on how to become an even better finisher, how to position myself and my body positioning.

“I had promised him that if I scored, I would run to him as a way of saying ‘thank you’!”

Even though they conceded two goals, the Netherlands’ defence and midfield are considered their strongest areas.

Their attack lacks world-class talent like Van Nistelrooy and Robben in years gone by, but Summerville is determined to fill that void.

West Ham fans know that he is very much a confidence player, and he could star at the World Cup if he consistently brings his A-game.
