West Ham United star Crysencio Summerville is seemingly set for a change of position under Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman.
Indeed, Summerville was a somewhat controversial inclusion in the Dutch World Cup squad for the 2026 World Cup given the fact he’s never played for his country at senior level.

The West Ham star was in line for a call up back in March but an injury sustained while playing in the FA Cup against Brentford derailed those plans.
Still, the 24-year-old did enough to convince Koeman even despite West Ham’s relegation from the Premier League, although he may not be handed the role in which he briefly excelled at club level.
Koeman hints at changing Summerville’s position
Following the squad announcement earlier this week, Koeman was asked why Summerville was selected ahead of Liverpool’s Jeremie Frimpong.
He said: “I’ve also chosen someone else to play on the right wing: Summerville. That comes as no surprise to me, as I wanted to call him up back in March. I like that sort of player who is reliable on the pitch. He’s very capable of playing on the right flank, too, but his work ethic is exceptional.”

Frimpong is much more experienced on the international stage, as well as playing on the right-hand side of the pitch.
Still, the sheer number of injuries he suffered during his first season at Liverpool have seemingly cost him.
Clearly, Koeman is impressed by Summerville’s work rate too. Though he only made two appearances on the right for West Ham during the 2025/26 season, Koeman sounds fairly convinced.
Summerville is expected to leave West Ham this summer, once the World Cup is over. Quite where he goes next, however, is unclear.
In truth, his move from Leeds to east London has worked out better for him than it has for West Ham, at least until the club potentially turn a profit on him.
Though his purple patch in form between mid-January and early March was some sight to behold, that was the high watermark of a West Ham United career that never really got going either side of it.
