Michail Antonio could find himself on the bench yet again today for the West Ham United vs Nottingham Forest Premier League clash.
West Ham forward Michail Antonio has been in absolutely dreadful form this season, with just two goals in 13 games to his name (Transfermarkt), and he may well find himself watching our Premier League game against Nottingham Forest from the sidelines.
The 33-year-old Hammers forward incurred the wrath of the fans, and David Moyes it seems, when he took the ball from Said Benrahma’s path during our defeat to Brentford last weekend.
Benny had an open goal tap-in before Antonio slid in to blast the ball wide, and he even admitted that he wouldn’t have listened to the Algerian had he shouted for the ball. What an absolute joke that is!
His ego is getting in the way of doing what’s best for the team, and he shouldn’t be anywhere near the starting XI as far as I’m concerned.
Fortunately for us, it seems like Moyes could be set to go with the same attack that started against Olympiacos for today’s clash with Forest…

The 33-year-old attacker’s error, and poor performance in general against Brentford last weekend has clearly cost him dearly.
Guardian journalist Jacob Steinberg has hinted that Antonio could be left out of the side once again by Moyes this afternoon:
“With no goal in any competition since 26 August, Michail Antonio has been making more of an impact with comments on the Footballer’s Football Podcast than on the pitch. Never shy of voicing his opinion, it seems the striker is not worried about ruffling feathers. But it goes two ways. Antonio’s recent performances for West Ham have been dire and he cannot complain if he is on the bench against Nottingham Forest. David Moyes, whose side have won one in their last seven league games, has alternatives. West Ham may look more fluid if Lucas Paquetá starts at No 10 on his return from suspension, Mohammed Kudus plays on the right and the versatile Jarrod Bowen moves up front. Bowen shone as a roving central striker during West Ham’s win over Arsenal in the Carabao Cup and he linked well with Kudus against Brentford last week. Antonio, who missed an open goal during the 3-2 defeat by the Bees, is under pressure to raise his level.”
I totally agree with everything that Steinberg has said here.
Michail Antonio has to learn that team ethic always outweighs personal gain, and without that ethos, he won’t play.
The West Ham vs Nottingham Forest clash this afternoon is a vital one for us. Moyes absolutely needs to start with Mohammed Kudus, Jarrod Bowen and Lucas Paqueta as a front three today.
Antonio watching on from the bench again will hopefully help him refocus and remind him of what’s needed to play for West Ham.
