West Ham manager David Moyes looks to have been vindicated as the Atalanta boss slams ‘lazy’ Gianluca Scamacca.

West Ham sold Gianluca Scamacca to Atalanta in a deal worth up to £27.5m in the summer.

Hammers boss David Moyes has taken a lot of stick over his handling of the 6ft 5in striker, who became the latest in a long line of failed West Ham moves for forwards.

The Irons paid an initial £30.5m to sign Scamacca from Sassuolo the summer before last. But he was sold to Atalanta for £3m less just one year later.

Scamacca’s move to West Ham simply did not work out as he or the Hammers would have hoped.

Moyes vindicated as ‘lazy’ Scamacca slammed

Illness, injuries and a clear lack of research on the type of striker Scamacca is and what he would bring to the team left both the player and Moyes frustrated.

Many West Ham fans were divided on Scamacca, though.

As widely reported by the likes of The Athletic, Moyes publicly stated that the striker did not work hard enough for the team and was not fit enough to last 90 minutes in the Premier League.

Some fans agreed with the manager, others felt Moyes’ system and style was to blame and that he gave up on him too soon.

Well just seven months into his time back in Italy, it seems the Scot had a point after all.

‘He has to run’

West Ham manager Moyes looks to have been vindicated as the Atalanta boss slams ‘lazy’ Scamacca.

The 25-year-old has made just nine starts for Atalanta in all competitions since leaving West Ham.

Respected manager Gian Piero Gasperini has told L’eco di Bergamo – as reported by TMW – Scamacca simply has to work harder.

“He has to run because he isn’t running much,” Gasperini said.

“If he is so undynamic he won’t be able to do anything good.

“Even if he has these important qualities.”

It comes after Italy national team boss Luciano Spalletti also criticised Scamacca’s work ethic and was caught yelling at him to “wake up” during Italy’s clash with Ukraine.
