Luciano Spalletti went straight over to Gianluca Scamacca after Italy drew 0-0 with Ukraine last night to qualify for Euro 2024.

Italy earned a hard fought point in the end, but Luciano Spalletti was visibly furious with ex West Ham striker Gianluca Scamacca after the game.

The 24-year-old left the Hammers to join Atalanta in the summer transfer window, and he has began life with the Serie A club in blistering form.

As a result, the Italian has returned the national team setup, and could lead the line for his country at the Euros in the summer.

However, he clearly has a lot of work to do, if he is to do exactly that. Italy boss Spalletti was absolutely furious with him after last night’s draw with Ukraine.

But what did he shout at Scamacca?

Luciano Spalletti lets rip at Gianluca Scamacca

The Italy boss was absolutely furious after his side drew 0-0 with Ukraine yesterday in a EURO 2024 qualifier.

According to Italian Football TV, Spalletti yelled at Scamacca, ‘You need to wake up’, immediately after the full-time whistle blew:

This is really interesting isn’t it. Many Hammers fans, myself included, blamed David Moyes for Scamacca’s struggles at the London Stadium.

There were accusations that the Scot didn’t know how to get the best out of the Italian and that his system was ill-suited to the striker’s strengths.

However, maybe Moyes did nothing wrong after all. Perhaps the 24-year-old was just lazy and failed to put in the effort required to make it in the Premier League.

Luciano Spalletti yelling at Gianluca Scamacca to wake up after Italy’s draw yesterday certainly provides us with food for thought.
