Nathan Holland was released by West Ham United in the summer of 2022, and he joined MK Dons on a free transfer.

There were some West Ham United fans who thought that the club had made the wrong decision by releasing Nathan Holland, 24, rather than offering him a new deal.

However, West Ham boss David Moyes has been totally vindicated in his decision to allow Holland to leave the London Stadium, with his form for MK Dons having been really poor to say the least.

A lot of Hammers fans seemed to think that Holland was an up and coming talent but let’s have it right – he was 24 when he was released last summer!

In my opinion, the ex-Hammers winger never had what it takes to succeed in the Premier League, as harsh as that might sound…

West Ham releasing Nathan Holland was 100% the right call

The 24-year-old has found the going really tough with MK Dons this season, with just two goals in 27 games to his name (Transfermarkt).

It must be noted here – Holland is playing in League One, and he has still badly struggled. That tells us all we need to know about the winger’s ability really doesn’t it.

The ex-Everton academy graduate never had the pace or power required to succeed in the Premier League. That’s not just my opinion but is clearly just facts after his struggles in England’s third tier of football this season.

Don’t get me wrong, the 24-year-old may well go on to have a long and successful career with MK Dons, or perhaps even a Championship team.

Nathan Holland never had what it took to succeed with the Hammers at the very highest level though.

And his form in League One this season proves that West Ham should have moved him on sooner.
