West Ham fans have joined a Wolves and Erling Haaland love-in for hero Craig Dawson after a career-best performance.

When Mark Noble retired last summer he made a brilliant comment to the West Ham owners about Erling Haaland after his emotional Man City farewell.

West Ham held title-chasing Manchester City to a 2-2 draw at the London Stadium that day in what proved to be a fitting goodbye for Noble, who is now the Hammers’ sporting director.

At that time Man City had already confirmed they would be signing strike sensation Haaland that summer.

And when Noble was being honoured in the West Ham boardroom after the game, he reportedly quipped: “I’ll be laying on a beach somewhere next year while Craig Dawson is marking Erling Haaland!”

‘He cost a million pound and he’s awesome…’

Ironically West Ham ended up playing Man City in the first game of the next season and Haaland duly scored twice although Ballon Dawson did not play due to injury.

The West Ham fan favourite would go on to sign for Wolverhampton Wanderers in January to be closer to his family up north.

Hammers fans were devastated to see him go and told Wolves they were getting a top player and professional.

If Wolverhampton Wanderers supporters are honest, they probably didn’t believe the hype.

But they certainly do now as Dawson has proved, once again, to be an absolute bargain.

And there was no lack of irony when Dawson did finally realise that Noble vision of marking Haaland as Wolves played Man City at the weekend.

Although with a very different outcome than most might have expected.

‘Class recognises class’

And not just from Wolves fans either.

Hammers supporters enjoyed his performance as much as anyone, joining in the widespread praise for their former man mountain after he kept arguably the best striker in the world quiet.

In case you missed it a Wolves fan account has posted a video montage of Dawson from the match.

West Ham fans have been sharing and commenting on the post as they join the Wolves love-in.

And they were not the only ones impressed by Dawson’s display.

Haaland himself was seen congratulating the big man for his defending after stopping a certain goal for the Norweigan.

Wolves posted a clip of Haaland paying his respects to Dawson with the caption: “Class recognises class.”

West Ham still misses you Craig.
