Mark Noble made a brilliant comment to the West Ham owners about Erling Haaland after his emotional Man City farewell.
West Ham held title-chasing Manchester City to a 2-2 draw at the London Stadium in what proved to be a scintillating farewell for Noble.
It was Noble’s final appearance in front of his home crowd as he retires at the weekend.
West Ham did him proud, taking a 2-0 lead through two excellently taken goals from the irrepressible Jarrod Bowen.
City showed their class and winning mentality as they emerged after half-time determined to turn the game around and take a step closer to a fourth title in five years.
West Ham were sitting deep and conceded two goals before Lukasz Fabianski saved a last gasp Man City penalty to ensure it ended honours even.
Noble came on for the final minutes as West Ham held one of the best teams in world football and it kept the title race alive until the final day.
Man City showed their class on and off the pitch. After the game City boss Pep Guardiola rushed over to Noble on the pitch for a long embrace and the Spaniard imparted some words of wisdom on the east London legend.
Noble also showed what he is all about with his speech after the game and by leaving a 300-word letter for each member of the press at the London Stadium.
If West Ham thought taking on Man City was tough this season, wait until they face Guardiola’s men next term after the arrival of world class young striker Erling Haaland.
The Hammers can only dream about signing a player of that class up front.
The prospect of facing a Man City side spearheaded by such a powerful talent is a daunting one.
And Noble made a brilliant comment to the West Ham owners about Haaland in the boardroom after his Man City farewell.
Noble has made it clear he intends to take some nice family holidays after hanging his boots up as a West Ham player.
As a result West Ham co-owner David Sullivan bought Noble a Louis Vuitton travel bag as a retirement gift and presented it to him in the boardroom, as reported by Claret and Hugh.
And Noble reportedly quipped: “I’ll be laying on a beach somewhere next year while Craig Dawson is marking Erling Haaland!”
And it sums up the fear that City are already striking into their opponents ahead of next season.
Mind you knowing Dawson, he will probably have the Norwegian beast in his pocket!
