A coveted young star is set to buck the trend by staying with West Ham despite interest from six clubs including two in La Liga.

There has been a worrying trend developing of West Ham losing some of their top young talent.

And it’s not a good look for the self-styled Academy of Football.

Homegrown captain and talisman Declan Rice then pushed to join Arsenal in the summer and that trend extended to first team stars too.

England youth internationals Jamal Baptiste and Divine Mukasa have left West Ham to join Man City.

Last year another England youth star, Sonny Perkins, ditched the Hammers to move to Leeds.

And David Moyes was powerless to stop yet another highly-rated England youth international Amaro Nallo from joining Liverpool recently.

But there is finally some good news for the Hammers when it comes to keeping top talent in the academy.

Because a coveted young star is set to buck the trend by staying with West Ham despite interest from six clubs including two in La Liga.

Very talented and highly regarded attacking midfield starlet Daniel Rigge is set to turn down four Premier League clubs and two Spanish sides to sign a long-term deal with West Ham.

That was confirmed by transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano and backed up by Hammers News’ own source inside the club over the weekend.

“Understand highly rated talent Dan Rigge is about to sign a new long term deal with West Ham,” Romano said.

“(The) 2006 born midfielder had interest from four Premier League clubs and two in La Liga but was focused on West Ham future.”

Our source has confirmed the club are relieved given the interest in Rigge and departures of a number of top academy talents in the recent past.

Rigge signed Scholarship terms with the West Ham United Academy in June last year. 

He enjoyed an impressive debut season with the Hammers, featuring 24 times in all competitions, and scoring two goals in victories against Brighton and Spurs.

The attacking midfielder helped Kevin Keen’s side to win the U18 Premier League South division trophy and the FA Youth Cup as the young Hammers completed a historic double.
