West Ham fans unhappy as Bowen snubbed by England

Following the news – which was confirmed on Friday morning – Hammers News asked its readers and subscribers across Facebook and TalkingPoints for their reaction.

One supporter wrote: “It’s a joke.”

Another added: “Bowen should have been there in front of [Anthony] Gordon….hands down.”

“At least when England crash out on penalties in the World Cup, Hammers can’t be blamed for it,” was another comment.

Pretend you’re Nuno – what changes are you making ahead of Leeds? 👀

If anyone says keep the back five, I'll be shocked 😂

“Unfortunately he’s just not one of the in crowd, when he played he hardly received the ball,” read another response.

“Completely the wrong decision for me,” said one supporter.

This fan said: “It’s crazy, Madueke doesn’t have the defensive qualities of Bowen nor the creative ability either, gobsmacked.”

“Doesn’t play for one of the big 6,” wrote another subscriber.

Thomas Tuchel has made a major mistake with Jarrod Bowen

Bowen is on a Premier League goal drought, so it’s not as if he was in absolutely stunning form heading into the World Cup.

Still, to leave him out entirely when the likes of Madueke and Ivan Toney have been included feels very harsh indeed.

While the 29-year-old has faced criticism at times this season, Bowen has pulled West Ham out of the fire on a constant basis.

He is clearly a player who can impact games when the going gets tough, a trait England have long missed at major tournaments over the years.

It’s clearly a grave disappointment for Bowen, though the hope will be that he can channel that into stepping up for his club once more on Sunday when West Ham play Leeds in their final Premier League game of the campaign.
