Julen Lopetegui is thought to be eyeing a move to sign an elite striker for West Ham United this summer.

West Ham appointed Julen Lopetegui as our new head coach this summer, and one of the 57-year-old’s main priorities was, and still is, to sign an elite striker.

The Hammers boss is allegedly eyeing up a £35 million move to sign Aston Villa centre-forward Jhon Duran.

While the Colombia international may be Lopetegui’s prime target, the Spaniard is clearly not putting his eggs all in one basket, and rightly so.

The West Ham head coach should be playing the field, so to speak, and that means having numerous transfer targets lined up, just in case a move for Duran fails to come to fruition.

What is certain is the fact that the Hammers cannot afford to head into the new Premier League campaign with Michail Antonio leading the line for us one again.

As good as the 34-year-old has been for us, it’s time for a big upgrade in the centre-forward department, and Lopetegui is seemingly eyeing someone who certainly fits into that criteria…

West Ham eye stunning move to sign striker

Getting the centre-forward signing spot on this summer will be a matter of paramount importance for Lopetegui.

Historically, the Hammers have really struggled when it comes to signing strikers over the past decade or so.

Hopefully Lopetegui can buck that trend this summer.

And it seems like the Spaniard has a move in the pipeline for someone who’d be sure to succeed at the London Stadium.

According to a report from The Athletic, Lens hitman Elye Wahi is still an option for West Ham this summer.

The Hammers were heavily linked with a move to sign the 21-year-old last summer, but he joined Lens from Montpellier in the end.

Described as a ‘phenomenal’ talent by Ligue 1’s official website, Wahi would be a stunning signing for West Ham.

He is an absolute speed demon and has the kind of pace that terrifies defenders. His movement is exceptional and he is an elite finisher.

He bagged 12 goals and four assists in 37 games last term, and 19 goals and six assists in 33 outings the season before that.

If he’s available for a reasonable fee this summer – somewhere around £30 million or so – the Hammers should be all over it.

Elye Wahi would offer West Ham a completely different dimension to our attacking play what with his lightning speed and incredible movement.

Hopefully Lopetegui and Steidten make this one happen.
