West Ham United could be about to make a truly huge loss on one player in particular it seems.

David Moyes could make a big loss in the transfer market, with the West Ham boss looking to get rid of our fifth longest serving current player (academy players not included).

The Hammers boss may need to sell before he can buy, due to ongoing FFP concerns, and he may well be looking to bring more British players in whilst moving on some foreign stars, as the club looks to meet the homegrown player quota.

One player who could find his head on the chopping block in the January transfer window is Pablo Fornals, and he is apparently a transfer target for Barcelona.

The 27-year-old has fallen well down the pecking order at the London Stadium over the past year or so, and it would be no surprise if he left the club either in January or next summer.

It seems like West Ham are prepared to make a massive loss on the Spaniard as well…

According to claims from Claret and Hugh, the Hammers could sell Fornals for just £8 million in January.

That would represent a massive loss on the £25 million that West Ham paid for the midfielder in the summer of 2019 (Telegraph).

Still, it would be better than losing him for nothing. Fornals leaving the London Stadium will be for the good of his own career, he still has plenty of time left to make a right go of things back in La Liga.

After making a fine start to life in East London, things have gone downhill for Fornals since October 2022.

He has made just 10 Premier League starts for the Hammers over the past 13 months (Transfermarkt), and he has flattered to deceive pretty much every time he has taken to the pitch during that period.

I believe that the West Ham need to sell Pablo Fornals as soon as possible, in spite of the huge loss that we will inevitably make. Moyes can then bring in someone more suited to his current system.
