West Ham United are allegedly prepared to go down a completely different route when it comes to transfers in January and next summer.

According to Claret and Hugh – a website with very close links to co-owner David Sullivan, West Ham are being forced into a change of tack regarding future transfers.

Hammers boss David Moyes made a succession of top-class signings in the summer, after the exit of Declan Rice.

However, over the past three transfer windows, only three out of 13 players signed by the Scot have been British.

And that has seemingly caused a big problem for West Ham…

West Ham forced to go down completely different route regarding transfers

With the Hammers currently low on homegrown players, the focus of Moyes’s future transfer business will be on signing British players according to C&H.

It is suggested that Aaron Cresswell, Ben Johnson and Danny Ings are all likely to leave the London Stadium in the summer of 2024.

Now, this could become an issue, with Premier League rules stating that at least eight homegrown players must be included in the 25-man squads.

West Ham do, of course, have plenty of exciting young British players coming through the ranks. But how many of those are likely to feature next season? Maybe Divin Mubama (if he stays at the club), Callum Marshall, Gideon Kodua and Ollie Scarles?

If Moyes is still in charge at the London Stadium next season, there is no way he’ll be including a handful of teenagers in his Premier League squad, it’s just not the way that he operates.

So let’s say for argument’s sake that Mubama and Marshall are included in the squad next season, with Cresswell, Ings and Johnson leaving the club. That means that the Scot has to sign a few Brits either in the upcoming January window or next summer.

West Ham United’s approach to transfers looks set to change. Whether it will work out for us in the long-term remains to be seen though.
