The West Ham United coaches spotted a real weakness in Jarrod Bowen, and tried to address it before the start of the new season.

Jarrod Bowen has been absolutely superb for West Ham so far this term, and he was rewarded for his fine form with a new seven-year deal last month.

Hammers boss David Moyes has been delighted with the 26-year-old this season and rightly so – he has nine goals and three assists to his name in just 16 games so far (Transfermarkt).

Bowen has undoubtedly elevated his game this season, and has really flourished with the added responsibility after Declan Rice left to join Arsenal in the summer.

Moyes spoke earlier this season about how Bowen became slightly one dimensional, and that he needed to make more runs from out to in, in order to become a truly top-class Premier League player.

And in fairness to the former Hull City star, that’s exactly what he’s done…

West Ham staff noticed Jarrod Bowen weakness

According to a report from The Athletic, the Hammers coaching staff thought that Bowen had become too predictable by cutting inside onto his left foot far too often.

Kudos to the 26-year-old and the club’s coaching staff for the improvement that he’s shown this season. He’s definitely not as predictable any more, and is far more of a goal threat in behind.

I noticed Bowen making those runs in behind the opposition back-line earlier on this season, and he undoubtedly takes on defenders on the outside more than he ever used to before.

Whilst none of his nine goals have come with his right foot this season, he has scored three headers.

Jarrod Bowen is getting in more dangerous positions for West Ham this term, on a far more consistent basis too.

The former Hull City man has reached a new level entirely, and if he continues to improve he will definitely have to be classed as one of the Premier League’s very best attackers.

Hopefully we’ll see Bowen produce the goods for England over the next week or so.
