West Ham United have been chosen for a new TV date at Bristol City and fans will be all too aware why that is the case.

It’s been a pretty miserable start to the new year for West Ham all things considered.

There has been a spate of injuries to a host of key Hammers stars.

David Moyes has lost star boy Mohammed Kudus to AFCON until next month. There have been drab home draws against Brighton in the Premier League and Bristol City in the FA Cup and no headway has been made on bringing in any new signings in the January transfer window.

Not to mention another match being added to West Ham’s already gruelling fixture list.

Now it seems BBC chiefs are hoping West Ham’s difficult start to 2024 gets even worse.

West Ham chosen for new TV date at Bristol

Because West Ham have been chosen for a new TV date at Bristol City and fans will be all too aware why.

The FA Cup third-round replay between Bristol City and the Hammers will be shown live across the BBC.

The tie will take place on Tuesday, 16 January live on BBC One, BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport website and app.

And they will clearly be hoping for a cup upset, particularly after the Robins more than held their own in the 1-1 draw at the London Stadium.

West Ham should have put the game to bed in the first match. But in the end they were hanging on when Tommy Conway cancelled out Jarrod Bowen’s opener at London Stadium.

Meanwhile ITV will show live coverage of Nottingham Forest’s trip to Blackpool the following night after the original tie finished 2-2 at the City Ground.

The winner of West Ham’s tie at Bristol City will host the winner of the Forest v Blackpool clash in the fourth round – which will be played on the weekend of 27-28 January.

West Ham’s central midfield has been unaffected by the injury and availability crisis thus far. But it will be far from the strongest Hammers side up front for the TV trip to Bristol City.

With no Kudus, Nayef Aguerd, Bowen, Lucas Paqueta or Michail Antonio we expect the side to look something like this – with the good news being that Konstantinos Mavropanos is back.

Fabianski, Coufal, Zouma, Mavropanos, Emerson, Soucek, Ward-Prowse, Alvarez, Fornals, Cornet, Ings.
