West Ham boss David Moyes has delivered an extremely worrying update on £80m trio Nayef Aguerd, Gianluca Scamacca and Emerson.
Win and West Ham can rise as high as 13th. Lose and they could end up bottom of the table. The stakes could not be higher as we head into spell of nine games in 27 days.
Just four points separate the nine clubs from 12th to 20th and at least 36 points is expected to be needed to survive.
With speculation swirling – again – over the future of David Moyes, the game is without doubt a must win if ever there was one.
West Ham were boosted by news from the Southampton camp that they could be without at least three key first team stars.
That includes the Saints’ first-choice central defensive pairing and top scorer Che Adams.
The Hammers looked to have come through the international break unscathed with no reported injuries to the 11 senior players who joined up with their national sides.

But now West Ham boss Moyes has delivered an extremely worrying update on £80m trio Nayef Aguerd, Gianluca Scamacca and Emerson.
Speaking in his pre-Southampton press conference, Moyes says the trio could be doubts for the massive game.
The Scot says all three have returned from international duty with issues.
Emerson is ill, Aguerd has a hip problem and Scamacca is feeling his knee again.
“We’ve got illness here and there and a couple of injuries (with the players coming back from international duty),” Moyes said in his press conference (whufc.com).
“Emerson has been sick, Aguerd has a niggly hip and Scamacca has a sore knee, so we’ll see where we are.”
That is very worrying news indeed ahead of such an important match for West Ham.
Obviously Scamacca has been an unused sub for the Hammers in the last four Premier League games anyway.
Byt Aguerd and Emerson are key and their absence will considerably weaken the side.
Let’s hope they can make it for this one.
