West Ham could be set to miss out on one of our prime targets to Chelsea in the January transfer window.
Chelsea and West Ham are both believed to be on the hunt for a new centre-back in the January transfer window.
Hammers boss David Moyes needs to bring in a top-class defender with Angelo Ogbonna set to turn 36 in May and concerns surrounding the fitness of Kurt Zouma.
Unfortunately for us though, Chelsea have now opened talks with one of Moyes’s key targets – Jean-Clair Todibo, according to Foot Mercato.
The Nice central defender is firmly on the West Ham radar this winter, and he would be a sensational addition for us.
However, Chelsea’s interest in the former Barcelona star will definitely be a huge inconvenience for us…
Chelsea could ruin West Ham’s January transfer window plan
The Blues beating the Hammers to the signature of Todibo this winter would be a major blow as far as I’m concerned.
The Nice star is an elite centre-back – someone who would take us to another level entirely.
German legend Lothar Matthäus once described the 24-year-old as ‘the best centre-back’ he’s seen in a long time, and labelled him as incredible, as quoted by Sport:
“Todibo is the best centre back I’ve seen in a long time. He would be a good reinforcement for Schalke and an enrichment for the Bundesliga. At 20 he is incredibly calm, he always finds interesting solutions.”
The talented French defender will be a sensational addition for whichever club wins the race for his signature.
Todibo is very strong in the air, really quick along the ground and tenacious in the tackle. In 34 Ligue 1 outings for Nice last season, he averaged 2.2 tackles, 1.2 interceptions and 3.1 clearances per game (Who Scored).
The scary thing is that at his age, he will only get better and better with every week that passes.
It is believed that Nice want around £43 million for the defender (Area Napoli). Chelsea obviously won’t think twice about paying that kind of cash for the 24-year-old in the January transfer window. However, West Ham aren’t flush with cash, so it’s definitely advantage to the west London outfit.
