West Ham United are battling some of the wealthiest clubs on the planet to sign a prolific striker this summer.
Signing a striker before the summer transfer window slams shut will be the number one priority now for West Ham head coach Julen Lopetegui.
The Spaniard is apparently keen to get the majority of his business wrapped up before the bulk of our pre-season games.
He has already made three signings, but many more additions are required, if he is to take us to the next level.
Lopetegui needs to ensure that his squad has ample cover in pretty much every single department, ahead of what will be a really challenging season.
The striker signing is one that West Ham have failed to get right over the past decade.
However, the Hammers head coach seems to be determined to succeed where those before him have failed…
West Ham battling mega-rich clubs to sign striker this summer
Lopetegui seems to be intent on bringing a proven striker to the club before the start of the new season.
According to a report from Super Deporte (print edition July 17th, page 11), the Hammers are battling mega-rich clubs from Qatar to sign Alexander Sorloth this summer.

Despite his £32 million release clause, it has been claimed that the Hammers could sign him for just £25 million in the summer transfer window.
The 28-year-old forward was in stunning form out in Spain last season, and he’s suit Lopetegui’s system down to a tee.
Sorloth has scored 131 goals in 368 career games. Last season for Villarreal, he bagged an impressive 26 goals and six assists in 41 games.
Standing at 6ft 5in tall, the 53-capped Norway international is always a real handful for opposing centre-backs.
The former Crystal Palace striker is incredibly strong in the air, obviously, possesses decent pace and he is an elite finisher.
For £25 million, I just don’t think the Hammers can go wrong by signing the Villarreal hitman.
If West Ham bring Norwegian striker Alexander Sorloth to the London Stadium this summer, I think it will be a very smart move.
He’s the finished article, and Lopetegui’s front-line would be incredibly potent with the towering striker spearheading our attack.
