West Ham United ace Jarrod Bowen has delivered a surprise verdict on Chelsea’s ‘obscene’ recent actions in the transfer market.

The West Ham vs Chelsea clash on Saturday in the Premier League will see David Moyes and his side come up against the biggest spenders in modern history.

Chelsea splashed out in excess of £300 million on eight new players last month, including the likes of Enzo Fernandez, Mykhaylo Mudryk and Benoit Badiashile. Graham Potter’s January outlay has been described as ‘obscene’ by the likes of the Independent.

Meanwhile, West Ham spent only £15 million on Danny Ings and brought Luizao to the London Stadium on a free transfer. The financial gulf between the two sides is enormous.

And Bowen has been talking about Chelsea’s recent spending ahead of the game this weekend…

The Hammers ace sat down for a wide-ranging interview with WHUFC.com.

And Bowen responded when asked to give his opinion on Chelsea’s aggressive approach to transfers in the January window:

Chelsea have obviously done things a different way, but they’ve got the resources and are building for the future. If you look, they’ve bought players who are 21 or 22, so obviously they are there for a long-term project, to be there for however many years. Sometimes it can take a bit of time to gel, particularly when players are new to the Premier League, but I’ve watched a few of their games and their players have looked really, really good.”

In fairness to Chelsea, Bowen is spot on, and it’s nice to hear someone actually speak the truth rather than wheel out the same old tired cliches when it comes to the Blues’ spending.

The average age of the eight players signed by Chelsea in January is just 20.625! Quite incredible really. They are obviously building to the future, and good luck to them.

In spite of their recent colossal spending though, West Ham should still give them a real game this weekend. The likes of Jarrod Bowen, Declan Rice and Lucas Paqueta will cause Chelsea all sorts of problems.

Hopefully the Hammers emerge victorious from the David vs Goliath clash on Saturday at the London Stadium.
