‘We were much better than West Ham’ says Saints star James Ward-Prowse after being unimpressed by Hammers.
If David Moyes thought the vital win over Southampton might dampen some of the noise around West Ham then it seems he may have to think again.
It was billed a must win for both teams as the Hammers took on survival rivals Southampton in what was a battle of the bottom two in the Premier League.
Every single one of us would have taken any kind of win for West Ham. So it would be hypocritical to sit here and complain having got it by hook or by crook – and with VAR finally going in West Ham’s favour.
While a win is a win – and three points were genuinely all that mattered – the performance against Southampton has done little to sway fan opinion about Moyes it seems.

The Scot will be hoping it gives his West Ham side new confidence ahead of big games against Newcastle and Fulham this week.
But the Hammers should not be getting carried away according to one key Southampton player.
‘We were much better than West Ham’ says Saints star James Ward-Prowse after being unimpressed by the Hammers.
Ward-Prowse – an alleged summer target for West Ham as a replacement for Declan Rice – has been reflecting on the defeat at the London Stadium.
And he did not make much of the Hammers, essentially saying they have been given much more difficult matches this season.
He also pointed out that stats showed Southampton were better in several key areas.
“Obviously it was a disappointing result,” said the Saints captain reflected (Hampshire Live).
“I think we started the game really well, we were in control of the game, we executed it really well, frustrated the crowd, built it up really well.

“But I think it summed up our season and where we are as a team that we’ve had good moments, we don’t capitalise on them and then we concede an easy goal at the other end. From that position, it’s 10 times harder to get back into the game.
“The table doesn’t lie, but I think if you look at the game we were by far the better team.
“I think we had control of the ball. We had good possession and we felt in control. We never felt like we were up against it like we have been (against other teams) at times this season.”
Southampton ended the game with 57% possession to West Ham’s 43% and registered three shots on target to West Ham’s two. The Saints also completed 544 passes to West Ham’s 403.
Many West Ham fans feel Moyes’ tactics and system are far too negative and risk averse.
And while a win is all that matters for what remains of the season, damning comments like those from Ward-Prowse do not bode well for Moyes staying at West Ham beyond that.
