Two-time Champions League winner Owen Hargreaves has slammed Gareth Southgate over his latest snub of West Ham star James Ward-Prowse.
Everyone connected with West Ham was livid – if not overly surprised – when Gareth Southgate snubbed Jarrod Bowen and James Ward-Prowse for his September England squad.
Both players have started the new season on fire and Southgate was widely criticised for the double snub.
The Premier League’s media team even seemed to have a dig at Southgate for failing to select Ward-Prowse.
And West Ham academy graduate Rio Ferdinand even said that Ward-Prowse should retire from international duty in protest.
Another former Hammers star Joe Cole warned Southgate he was making himself look ‘silly’ by not selecting Ward-Prowse.
But when the England squad was announced yesterday, West Ham’s £30m summer signing was overlooked yet again.
Bowen was called up for the October internationals against Australia and Italy. But there was still no place for his West Ham teammate.
Ward-Prowse responded to the latest snub by making it eight goals contributions in as many games with another assist for West Ham in their Europa League victory away at Freiburg on Thursday night.
After the game the midfielder admitted he was ‘hugely disappointed’ not to be selected.
And he has some very high profile support.

Speaking on TNT Sports, former England star Hargreaves – who won the Champions League with Bayern Munich and Man United as a player – was stunned by the latest snub.
And he says no England midfielder besides Real Madrid superstar Jude Bellingham is in better form than the West Ham star.
“With James Ward-Prowse whipping balls into the area like that, you just invite players to attack,” Hargreaves said.
“This team is almost tailor-made for Ward-Prowse with their size and his accuracy…
“Oh yea he’s got to be in there (the England squad) on form. You know Gareth says he’s picking on form.
“There’s nobody – only Jude (Bellingham) obviously – more in form than Ward-Prowse – he deserves the right to play.”
