Top recruitment man and David Moyes ally Mick Doherty has handed in his notice to quit West Ham claims a journalist.

West Ham appear to be seeing the first casualty of their new recruitment structure headed up by Tim Steidten.

The German was brought in as West Ham’s technical director over the summer as co-owners David Sullivan and Daniel Kretinsky sought to improve the club’s transfer business.

After a difficult start Steidten’s appointment proved a major success with the Hammers widely regarded as having had one of the best summer windows in the Premier League.

Alan Nixon, who has contacts with the Moyes camp, has revealed the news on his Patreon account.

“Top spy Mick Doherty has quit West Ham and his long term ally David Moyes,” The Sun journalist states.

“However Doherty decided to move on and put in his notice last week.”

Unclear whether Steidten and Moyes will line up replacement

It is not clear how much notice Doherty is required to give and whether he has another club lined up.

Whether a replacement will be sought by Steidten and Moyes remains to be seen. And it is not clear whether the departure is a result of the Hammers shake-up following Steidten’s appointment.

On his LinkedIn, Doherty describes himself as being responsible for West Ham’s ‘Emerging Talent International/UK Recruitment’.

Doherty – formerly of Celtic – is believed to have only joined West Ham one year ago – as reported on Hammers News at the time.
