West Ham United will have Tomas Soucek available for the FA Cup clash against Manchester United tomorrow with his red card set to be rescinded.
Mike Dean and VAR official Lee Mason caused controversy on Saturday night by sending off the much-loved Czech midfielder.
Current and ex players, pundits, journalists and fans of all clubs hit out at Dean for the error when it was clear Soucek did not intend to elbow Aleksandar Mitrovic.
West Ham set to win Soucek red card appeal today – report
The Serbian striker himself told Dean there was no intent. But the controversial ref still elected to send Soucek off.
There was an outcry after the game and social media was united over the incident, something no politician has ever managed.
But there will be some good news for West Ham fans today.
Because according to the likes of The Sun, Soucek’s red card is set to be scrapped.
‘Dean has been told by his bosses at PGMOL he got it WRONG’
And that means West Ham’s top scorer will be available for the FA Cup fifth round clash against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.
“West Ham are set to win their appeal over Tomas Soucek’s red card at Fulham,” The Sun reports.
“Referee Mike Dean has been told by his bosses at PGMOL he was wrong to send the Czech midfielder off in the 0-0 draw at Fulham.”
West Ham boss David Moyes, though, was keeping his cards close to his chest as to whether Soucek will play in the game.
Tactics and team selection are closely guarded secrets of any Moyes regime.
Whether Soucek plays against Pogba-less Man United is another matter says Moyes
And the Hammers manager said if Soucek’s appeal is successful there is no guarantee he will play against the Red Devils.
“If Tomas was missing for any game it would be a blow,” Moyes said.
“Whether we chose to play him against United or not is a different decision.”
While West Ham will have their star midfielder available, Manchester United will be without theirs.
Paul Pogba will miss the game after limping out of Man United’s 3-3 draw with Everton before half-time.
Pogba was influential in the league game against West Ham. But he will not face them as he requires a scan to discover the extent of the injury.
