David Moyes has revealed the big problem he is facing when it comes to West Ham United’s summer transfer business.

Moyes won’t sign random free agent now after taking a stand against West Ham way

West Ham were widely expected to sign a striker in the January window.

Particularly after selling Sebastien Haller to Ajax for £20million.

Jesse Lingard was the only new arrival for West Ham’s first team squad, though.

West Ham’s failure to sign manager’s striker targets coming home to roost when it matters most?

There are already signs that a lack of competition may have – subconsciously – taken the edge off Antonio’s game.

But any injury to him now leaves Moyes without a single recognised senior striker.

West Ham’s owners David Sullivan and David Gold were criticised for not fronting the money to get one of Moyes’s striker targets in last month.

Bids for the likes of Youssef En-Nesyri were deemed too low.

Hammers recruitment massively improved under Moyes

Since Moyes took charge of West Ham’s recruitment, it has been markedly improved.

The likes of Tomas Soucek, Jarrod Bowen, Vladimir Coufal, Said Benrahma, Craig Dawson and Lingard are proof of that.

But that in itself presents Moyes and West Ham with a big problem.

That’s according to the man himself.

Speaking to The Athletic Moyes says his signings so far have set such high standards it will be hard to beat.

Moyes reveals his big problem when it comes to West Ham’s summer transfers

“If we find more players like Coufal, then great, but this is the problem: we’ve set the expectations when you bring in the likes of Vladimir and Tomas, and it’s not that easy to do,” Moyes told The Athletic.

“I want players who have longevity and I hope Jesse likes it here, I hope that we like Jesse and he thinks it’s a home for him where he can enjoy his football and thrive.

“But I’m going to have to keep looking because with the recruitment here, we need to keep getting more signings right.

“We’ve only really had a year of it now. There’ll be dips in it when it doesn’t go quite so well but I’m hoping that I can keep the levels up, and we’re not going to be a side that is always hovering around the bottom if I can help it.”
