Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard has delivered his verdict on West Ham ahead of the hugely important Premier League clash on Sunday.
The Hammers head to Villa Park to take on Gerrard’s Aston Villa side this weekend in a game that we absolutely have to win.

West Ham have lost our opening three games of the Premier League season but after yesterday’s win against Viborg and subsequent qualification to the group stages of the UEFA Europa Conference League, things are starting to seem a bit brighter.
It is being claimed that David Moyes is on the verge of bringing Lucas Paqueta to the London Stadium from Lyon as well (The Athletic).
Having said that, it will mean nothing if we lose to Villa on Sunday. Steven Gerrard expects the Hammers to provide a tough test for his side though…
Aston Villa boss gives West Ham verdict
The Hammers beat the Villans 4-1 at Villa Park and 2-1 at the London Stadium last season, so the Aston Villa fans will be well aware of the threats that we possess.
Steven Gerrard knows all about West Ham’s quality.
And the Villa boss shared what he noticed when watching us in action against Viborg last night, when speaking to AVFC.co.uk:
“I watched them last night and they certainly didn’t look like a bad team to me. West Ham have done ever so well under the guidance of David Moyes over the last few years. They’ve been up competing at the top end of the league and pushing for those European spots. They’ve had a fantastic run in Europe. I know more than most about European runs, as a player and as a manager, and how difficult it is to get to those latter stages. David Moyes and his team have done an incredible job over the last few years. There certainly won’t be any disrespect or wild opinions coming from this direction. Having said that, I’m sure he (Moyes) would have wanted a more positive start – a bit like myself. I’m sure he’ll be desperate to take three points at the weekend. It’s all to play for. It’s a tough game for both teams, and I’m looking forward to it.”
The West Ham players just need to turn up on Sunday, it really is as simple as that.
We would like Moyes to make a few changes to the starting lineup and the formation but at the end of the day, if the players selected don’t produce the goods, we won’t win the match.
Hopefully West Ham beat Aston Villa on Sunday. We desperately need the three points.
