Barack Obama was first linked with supporting West Ham during the 2008 campaign trail ahead of the Presidential elections later that year.
West Ham have a long list of famous supporters, including the likes of Danny Dyer, former WWE wrestler Triple H, Ray Winstone, Keira Knightley, Frank Bruno and Pixie Lott, who actually spoke exclusively to Hammers News back in 2020.
Barack Obama is seemingly the most famous though, by quite some way as well.
But is he really a Hammers fan?
The 44th president of the United States is obsessed with sport. He’s a football fanatic as well, so it wouldn’t be outside the realms of possibility that he supports West Ham.
The truth on whether Barack Obama really is a West Ham fan
Way back in January 2008, it was claimed by The Telegraph that Obama was a West Ham fan.
That claim came about after he attended a match at Upton Park in 2003 after being invited by family members who were Hammers fans.
West Ham then invited him to games after that rumour began to circulate.
And to this day, Obama is thought of as a Hammer by the majority of football fans.
However, there has been a hugely contradictory claim regarding Obama’s allegiance to West Ham.
It seems to have been completely missed though…

However, The Guardian rejected the claims made by the Telegraph.
Back in November 2008, they suggested that Obama told UK political correspondents that he has no allegiance to the Hammers.
So that’s one name we can tick off the long list of famous Hammers fans.
The fact that Barack Obama is a keen follower of all sports is well known, but he isn’t a West Ham fan.
And just like that, we’re left with the likes of Danny Dyer and Ray Winstone once again.
