Premier League officials are apparently demanding answers from PGMOL after the pathetic VAR incident at the end of the West Ham United vs Aston Villa clash on Sunday.
West Ham had a goal chalked off by VAR in the dying minutes of our 1-1 draw with Aston Villa, and despite the fact that the correct decision was made in the end, the Premier League were not happy with the process, and have contacted PGMOL for an explanation.
According to a report from the Daily Mail, the Premier League have contacted PGMOL – short for Professional Game Match Officials Limited – in order to ascertain why the decision to rule out the Hammers’ stoppage time goal took 5 minutes 37 seconds to make.
The likes of top Times award-winning journalist Henry Winter have already voiced their disdain for the way in which the VAR technology was used at the London Stadium.
If the decision to award the goal was not a clear and obvious error, then it should have been given right?

Premier League seek answers from PGMOL after VAR incident
Let me make something very clear – I believe that Tomas Soucek handled the ball before Jarrod Bowen headed home, so the decision to rule out the goal was the correct one.
However, we cannot have five or six minute breaks during games due to officials debating over whether or not to give a goal.
It has to be a maximum of 90 seconds in my opinion. If a conclusion cannot be reached by then, the benefit of the doubt should be given to the attacking team.
The Daily Mail claim that the Premier League are concerned that these lengthy delays are damaging their product, and they are keen to get to the bottom of the farcical decision making process on Sunday at the London Stadium.
Something has to give doesn’t it. New rules undoubtedly need to be introduced to combat these needless delays. The fact that a ‘clear and obvious’ error needs to be made by the referee in order for the VAR officials to get involved seems to have been forgotten.
Whether or not the Premier League get the answers that they want from PGMOL concerning the VAR process remains to be seen though.
