The former Paris Saint-Germain, Fulham and Real Madrid goalkeeper held the hand of one of the mascots as they made their way out onto the pitch yesterday afternoon.

Noise cancelling headphones are usually worn by children with autism because they are not comfortable with loud noises. They can also be used for youngsters with general anxiety, who are put on edge by loud noises.

What an incredibly human touch that was from Alphonse Areola before the West Ham vs Newcastle game and it’s a sign of how down to earth he is.

The fact that Areola wore headphones would have made the young boy feel so much more comfortable than he would otherwise have done. Well done to the Hammers stopper.
