Spurs star James Maddison shows West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen the love on England duty as Gareth Southgate hints at start.

You’d have to go a long way to find two players in better form than West Ham hero Jarrod Bowen and new Tottenham Hotspur star James Maddison this season.

West Ham hotshot Bowen has five goals and two assists so far this term while Maddison has two goals and five assists for league leaders Tottenham.

As a result, the Hammers and Spurs attacking duo have been rewarded with a call-up to the latest England squad for games against Australia and Italy.

And many are calling for Maddison and Bowen to get their chance as two of the squad’s Three Lions’ most in-form players.

There is no love lost between West Ham and Tottenham. But club rivalries are well and truly left at the door it seems.

Because Spurs star Maddison shows West Ham’s Bowen the love on England duty as Gareth Southgate hints at start.

In pictures from the first day of England camp, Spurs playmaker Maddison is seen greeting and being pally with West Ham ace Bowen.

Despite the rivalry between West Ham and Tottenham Hotspur, it is seriously difficult to dislike Maddison – who has been linked with a move to the Hammers several times in the past.

And the show of affection from the Spurs man towards Bowen, who is in only his second squad, underlines Maddison’s great character and personality.

Southgate comments on Bowen suggest he will start against Australia

England play Australia in a friendly on Friday. And even before Bukayo Saka was ruled out through injury, Southgate dropped a major hint that West Ham’s top scorer might start the game when quizzed on Raheem Sterling’s omission.

“We (Southgate and Sterling) spoke before the last squad and we’ve been happy with the wide players’ performances in the last four games in particular and in the two in March,” Southgate said in his press conference.

“The team are playing really well and clearly there’s some stability there.

“We have added Jarrod Bowen in those wide areas, he’s scored five in seven games and is playing really well and with the Australia game as well there’s the opportunity to learn some different things as well.”
