A Sky Sports reporter has lifted the lid on what coveted manager Michael Carrick told him in full about that West Ham job link.
West Ham co-owner David Sullivan told Hammers News after the 4-0 defeat to Brighton that David Moyes retained the backing of him and the board.
But that did not stop the latest round of speculation swirling about Moyes being sacked and who might replace him at West Ham.
One name heavily mentioned was Hammers academy graduate and former midfield star Carrick.
While some journalists suggested the Middlesbrough boss could be the kind of manager West Ham turn to next, The Daily Mail took things a step further.
Their report claimed West Ham are eyeing a move for Carrick if they decide to sack Moyes and that he would be tempted by the prospect.

‘Boro have been transformed since the arrival of alleged West Ham target Carrick, flying up the Championship table from 21st to third place during his tenure thus far.
Meanwhile Moyes has experienced almost the polar opposite at West Ham with his side going from top four contenders for the last two years to being one point off the relegation zone with 13 games to play.
There has been much debate as to whether Carrick would leave upwardly mobile Middlesbrough for struggling West Ham at the moment.
Now a Sky Sports reporter has lifted the lid on what coveted manager Carrick told him in full about the West Ham job link.
And Carrick has handled the situation with the kind of class he used to show on the pitch.
Keith Downie is Sky Sports’ north east reporter and he has spoken to Carrick about the links to replacing Moyes at West Ham.
Here is what Carrick had to say to Downie on the matter:

“I started at West Ham, I know David (Moyes) well and have huge respect for him,” Carrick told Downie.
“I played for him. It’s hugely unfair for me to comment. I hope West Ham have a fantastic end to the season with David in charge.
“West Ham is a fantastic club and David is a great man – I really wish them all the success. I’m happy here. Delighted… and why wouldn’t I be? I’m looking forward to an exciting end to the season with a terrific group of players. I’m just loving being here at Middlesbrough.”
Sounds pretty unequivocal doesn’t it.
Regardless it has long been clear West Ham intend to stick with Moyes until the summer now in the hope the Scot can turn things around.
There have been conflicting reports about what may happen at that point, though.
One report claims Moyes may be sacked at the end of the season even if he keeps West Ham up.
Meanwhile talkSPORT’s Jim White claims the Scot will remain in charge even if the Hammers drop.
