Senior Hammers source claims West Ham ‘need player out’ but he doesn’t want to leave

West Ham United desperately tried to move on one player in particular in the summer, but to no avail.

Julen Lopetegui arrived at West Ham on July 1st, and embarked on a huge squad overhaul at the London Stadium.

The West Ham head coach made some fantastic signings, and he now has a squad genuinely capable of challenging for the European places.

It’s not just the playing staff that has been overhauled. Apparently, Lopetegui has made huge changes behind the scenes as well, including a move to give the players less days off.

Big things are expected of the Spaniard at West Ham, considering the enormous backing that he has received.

However, it seems like even more new signings could have been made in the summer, if one particular player could have been moved on.

Said player stayed at the London Stadium in the end though.

Senior Hammers source claims West Ham ‘need player out’

It was a really busy transfer window at the London Stadium.

Nine new players arrived, with many heading in the opposite direction.

Deadline day saw a swathe of players leave on loan deals, but the club were unable to move on one man in particular.

Claret and Hugh spoke to a senior source at the London Stadium, and were told that West Ham ‘need Danny Ings out’, in response to a question about a reported deadline day bid for Jhon Duran:

“Stuff like that is confidential; we needed Ings out, and he didn’t want to go anywhere.”

That doesn’t surprise me at all. Ings has contributed absolutely nothing for West Ham since joining the club from Aston Villa in January 2023, well, he’s scored four goals in 53 games, but you get the point.

It has since been suggested that Danny Ings could still leave West Ham to join a club in Holland, Portugal, Denmark, Norway, Croatia, Austria, Czech Republic, Turkey or even Saudi Arabia, with their windows still open.

However, it was then claimed that the 32-year-old has no intention of leaving the London Stadium.

Danny Ings a shocking signing for West Ham

The 32-year-old has proven to be an atrocious signing by the Hammers, and it’s incredibly frustrating that we all saw it coming when Moyes brought him to the London Stadium.

The fact that the Scot agreed to pay £15 million to bring him to the club in January 2023 still baffles me.

Ings was never suited to the way that the Hammers play, especially under Moyes, and his legs have clearly given up on him at the very highest level.

He has scored just four goals for us since he swapped Villa Park for the London Stadium 19 months ago.

Getting him off the wage-bill should have been one of the Hammers’ main priorities in the summer, but the powers that be at the club were unsuccessful in doing just that.

Danny Ings clearly won’t be leaving West Ham before his contract expires in the summer of 2025, and all we can hope for is that he contributes for us at least once between now and then.
