West Ham head coach Julen Lopetegui has overseen quite the transformation at the London Stadium this summer.
Julen Lopetegui went about his summer business at West Ham in an extremely ruthless and efficient manner, helped of course by Tim Steidten and David Sullivan.
Nine new players were brought into West Ham by Julen Lopetegui, whilst the same amount departed, although a lot those were on loan deals.
In addition to the brilliant recruitment, the Hammers head coach managed to keep hold of his star trio – Jarrod Bowen, Mohammed Kudus and Lucas Paqueta – Steidten promised him he wouldn’t lose any of them.
West Ham seem to be on the right path to achieve great levels of success in the future with Lopetegui at the helm.
He has certainly changed the way that we operate as a club.
And now one big behind the scenes change the Spaniard has made has come to light…
Julen Lopetegui made big change behind the scenes at West Ham
When Lopetegui replaced David Moyes at the London Stadium earlier this summer, the size of the task that awaited him was enormous.
A huge squad overhaul was required at West Ham, with numerous new signings needed, and piles of deadwood that had to be moved on.

The 58-year-old succeeded with the remits he was given regarding player recruitment, but he’s made another big change behind the scenes.
According to a report from The Athletic, Lopetegui has made one very big change behind the scenes at the London Stadium.
The Spaniard has reduced the number of days off for the players:
“Of the many changes behind the scenes, the head coach has reduced the number of days off for the players. Lopetegui wants to increase the squad’s work ethic, something that Kilman’s arrival should help facilitate.”
That’s really encouraging and proves that Lopetegui is desperate to change the culture of the club at the London Stadium.
Julen Lopetegui needs time and patience
It will be vitally important for us all to give Lopetegui the patience and time that he requires to transform us into challengers for the Champions League places.
The Spaniard got the bulk of his work done in the summer transfer window just gone, but he needs two or three more top-class signings to really take us to the next level.
In my opinion, the current Hammers squad is still short of a box-to-box central midfield ball carrier, a rapid left-back and a young, explosive centre-forward.
Once Lopetegui manages to secure those signings, we will be right where we need to be.
There will be plenty of bumps along the road, and at times we may need to take two steps back in order to take one forward.
There will be moments when Julen Lopetegui is questioned by the West Ham fans, but everyone needs to stick together.
The Hammers are much stronger as a club when everyone is pulling in the same direction, and if Lopetegui is given the full support of the fanbase, a lot of success awaits us, I’m sure of it.
