Roy Keane says reported Man United target Declan Rice is a hype job and not worth the money West Ham want for him.

The beauty of football is that it is a game of opinions and everyone is entitled to theirs.

Unfortunately for West Ham fans, though, there are some pundits out there who fail to think before they open their mouths.

Show me a pundit who doesn’t rate Rice as one of the best midfielders in Europe and I’ll show you someone trying to play Devil’s Advocate in a desperate bid to stay relevant. Or in this case, Red Devils Advocate.

It says everything that West Ham captain Rice has been linked with a list of the biggest and best clubs across Europe for the last two or three years now including Manchester United.

Many feel Hammers hero Rice – who has often been likened to a modern day Roy Keane – is just what Man United need as part of Erik ten Hag’s rejuvenation project at Old Trafford.

West Ham fans know full well that Rice will be sold this summer and links to the likes of Man United won’t go away.

It took the rest of the world some time to wake up to West Ham talisman Rice’s supreme talent.

He has had to gradually earn the respect of many rival fans and pundits with top performance after top performance for club and country over the last few years.

But some pundits insist on making themselves look stupid by claiming Rice is overrated.

Now Old Trafford legend Keane has joined the list.

Keane says Man United target Rice is a hype job and not worth the money West Ham want.

Speaking ahead of West Ham’s 3-1 defeat to Man United in the FA Cup on Wednesday night, Keane says Rice must do more and questioned the price tag the Hammers have put on his head.

“I don’t think he’s been great this season,” Keane said of Rice on ITV Sport’s dismal coverage which experienced audio problems all night but unfortunately not when the pundit was having his say on West Ham’s talisman.

“There’s a lot of good PR coming out from West Ham about his price.

“He doesn’t score enough and he doesn’t assist enough. I know, I played that position. He needs to do a lot more.”

Bore off Keano.

If Harry Maguire and Antony cost £80m plus each then Rice is well worth £100m plus.
