Ridiculous Mohammed Kudus criticism from so-called experts must be addressed as David Moyes singles out West Ham’s star boy.

It’s been a dismal week for West Ham after three dreary defeats on the bounce.

But if there has been a ray of light for the Hammers it has come in the form of £38m summer signing Mohammed Kudus.

West Ham fans have been calling for David Moyes to give the Ghanaian international his first Premier League start.

It has taken a quarter of the season but Moyes – a stickler for drip-feeding new arrivals into the West Ham team – finally gave Kudus his full Prem debut against Everton on Sunday.

The Hammers fell to another disappointing defeat.

But Kudus – along with Jarrod Bowen – stood out for his bravery on the ball, willingness to keep trying to make things happen and his workrate for the team.

So ridiculous Kudus slander from so-called experts must be addressed as Moyes singles out West Ham’s star boy.

WhoScored state they are the world’s largest football statistics analytical website powered by Opta data.

And they have chosen to hammer Kudus for his performance in the clearest evidence yet that many statistics out there are absolutely meaningless.

“Mohammed Kudus was dispossessed eight times in West Ham’s 1-0 loss to Everton on Sunday,” WhoScored posted on X alongside a cringe emoji.

“No player has been done so more in a Premier League match this season.”

Lies, damned lies and statistics

They say there are lies, damned lies and statistics. And this is why.

Siri, show me someone who doesn’t understand football…

Cherry-picking a statistic like this is nothing short of laughable.

Ask any West Ham fan who watched the game who their best player was against Everton and it would be Kudus.

He was one of the few brave enough to keep taking the ball and trying to beat players and make something happen. So of course he might then lose the ball more than anyone else.

‘I thought he did brilliantly well’ says the man’s whose opinion matters most

These so-called experts and data analysts need to get their heads out of the spreadsheets and use their eyes to watch the game.

The man whose opinion matters most – Kudus’ manager Moyes – summed up how daft this particular stat is. Because the Scot singled the attacker out for praise after the game saying he did ‘brilliantly well’.

“I thought he played well,” Moyes said in his post match presser.

“I thought he did a lot of good things individually with the ball. When we got him the ball he was able to get himself out of trouble and help the team. It didn’t lead to us getting a shot, a goal, a cross, but I thought he did brilliantly well in a lot of occasions.

“We just needed it to be tied up in a combination to get us a goal or get us a bit of play to try and score.”

WhoScored’s opinion? WhoCares.
