Record signing Lucas Paqueta speaks up for David Moyes amid speculation over his future at West Ham beyond this summer.

There is incessant speculation over the future of David Moyes at West Ham.

The Scot said recently that he is planning to be at West Ham next term – the final year of his contract.

But what he says in public and what is reportedly going on behind the scenes are two very different things.

And this week he suggested he must wait until the Hammers secure Premier League survival before making concrete transfer plans for next season.

But while Moyes was talking about transfer planning for next season, news was breaking elsewhere that the Scot and his head of recruitment are ‘done’ at West Ham.

West Ham board confidant Sean Whetstone is claiming that the club will not be giving Moyes or Rob Newman another penny to spend after the regression this season despite a £185m spend.

A club record £51m of that was spent signing Brazilian midfielder Lucas Paqueta from Lyon.

West Ham fans have been calling Paqueta their ‘Brazilian magnifico’ ever since he arrived at the club from Lyon.

But the truth is until more recently he had done little on the pitch to justify that moniker from the Hammers faithful.

Paqueta has been one of West Ham’s best players of late.

However Hammers legend Ian Bishop said he feels sorry for Paqueta at West Ham and questioned whether Moyes knows how best to use the midfielder.

Now record signing Paqueta has spoken up for Moyes amid speculation over his future at West Ham.

“Ever since I arrived here the manager has given me a lot of support on and off the pitch,” Paqueta said of Moyes on the club’s official website.

“He tells us what he likes and what he doesn’t which helps us to do our best for the team and win games.

“I played a bit further back against Manchester City – I like playing there because I touch the ball more and I’m more involved in the game. Of course we wanted to win but we knew how tough it was going to be against them, but there are definitely positives that we can take into the next game.”
