David Moyes has made a big claim about next season with West Ham but his excuse now looks completely redundant.

West Ham welcome Man United to the London Stadium on Sunday in what is the latest in a long line of crucial matches.

One more win – or even a point – would all but seal Premier League safety for West Ham.

The truth is that was effectively achieved as a result of Leicester’s recent draw with Everton, barring remarkable bad luck for West Ham during the final four games of the season.

Essentially three of the teams below the Hammers would have to win at least two games each and David Moyes’ side not take a single point for West Ham to drop.

Not impossible of course, nothing is in football. But highly improbable.

David Moyes makes big claim about next season with West Ham but his excuse now looks completely redundant

It is set against the backdrop of West Ham’s push to try and win the Europa Conference League.

And incessant speculation over the future of Moyes at the end of the season.

The Scot said recently that he is planning to be at West Ham next term – the final year of his contract.

But what he says in public and what is reportedly going on behind the scenes are two very different things.

Now the Hammers boss has been talking about his future again ahead of the Man United clash.

And Moyes has made a big claim about next season with West Ham but his excuse now looks completely redundant.

Moyes has said the wait to officially secure Premier League survival is affecting his transfer planning for the summer.

“It stops you from getting (transfer) plans in place as much as you’d like because we’ve still got to get that win we’re talking about that would make sure we’re a Premier League club,” Moyes said in his presser (Football.London).

“It holds you back a little bit from going and getting on with things and making the next part of the decisions which you have to do.”

Moyes claims now look nothing more than a deflection tactic

Well it seems he won’t have any decisions to make if new claims are true.

Because while Moyes was talking about transfer planning for next season, news was breaking elsewhere that he and his head of recruitment are ‘done’ at West Ham.

West Ham board confidant Sean Whetstone is claiming that the club will not be giving Moyes or Rob Newman another penny to spend after the regression this season despite a £185m spend.

So Moyes’ claims that the wait to officially secure Premier League safety is holding him back from planning for next season are completely redundant.

Because it is becoming increasingly clear he is unlikely to be West Ham manager next season. And even if he is, he won’t be having control of transfers anyway.

Indeed in light of Whetstone’s claims, Moyes’ talk of the wait for safety being a hindrance to his transfer planning for next season looks nothing more than a deflection tactic to dampen any outside noise.
