Lucas Paqueta has opened up on how Newcastle star Bruno Guimaraes helped convince him to join West Ham United in the summer.

The Newcastle midfielder made the move to England six months earlier when he moved to St James’ Park from Lyon.

The Scot has already raved about the Brazilian, suggesting that he has been ‘really good’ since moving to East London from Lyon.

And it seems as though the Hammers have a Newcastle player to thank for Paqueta’s arrival…

Newcastle player convinced Lucas Paqueta to join West Ham

The 25-year-old Brazilian was persuaded to move to the Premier League and join the Hammers by his former Lyon teammate.

Paqueta sat down for an exclusive interview with The Times, and shared how Guimaraes spoke very highly of West Ham before he made his move to London at the end of last month:

“Bruno told me the Premier League is a great competition and was very complimentary about West Ham. He told me it was a great club and difficult to play against. I just joked and said, ‘They’ll be even more difficult when I am there’.”

The Brazilian already looks like an unbelievable signing for West Ham.

Sure, he was very expensive, but £50 million plus is the kind of money you need to pay these days if you want a top-class player. And the 25-year-old certainly fits into that particular category.

The fact that Lucas Paqueta is a West Ham player feels kind of surreal.

Thankfully for us, Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes pointed him in the right direction!
