Well-renowned football pundit Paul Merson delivered his take on West Ham United summer signing Crysencio Summerville a few months ago.

Crysencio Summerville joined West Ham from Leeds in the summer transfer window, for a fee believed to be worth around £20 million.

However, he’s had to be very patient. The 23-year-old had to wait up until five days ago before he properly announced himself at the London Stadium.

He has actually looked really bright during the first quarter of the season, but Julen Lopetegui inexplicably continued to ignore him.

There’s no doubts now – Summerville will start our next run of games, and rightly so, after his stunning performance against Manchester United.

That kind of display was nothing new for the Dutchman though – he produced the goods consistently for Leeds last season.

He bagged a stunning 21 goals and 10 assists for the Whites last term.

Whilst his numbers may well not be anywhere near that tally with the Hammers this season, he’s well on the way to becoming a crucial player for us.

Paul Merson made ridiculous Crysencio Summerville prediction

Merson often comes out with rather bizarre takes.

It’s nothing new and it could be argued that is in fact what his entire persona was built on.

And his verdict on Summerville earlier this year could end up being one of his worst of all-time.

Merson suggested back in August that he wasn’t convinced by Summerville one little bit.

The pundit said, Crysencio Summerville was ripping it up in the Championship last season, but he will now be playing against better full-backs – we will have to wait and see.

And then just a month later, Merson went in on the 23-year-old Hammers winger yet again, when discussing our summer business:

He said, “West Ham’s other new signing Crysencio Summerville might find it hard to impress, though.

Merson was unconvinced by Summerville, but he’s been made to eat his words now.

The Hammers winger proved on Sunday against Manchester United that he’s more than good enough to succeed at the very highest level, after he tormented their back-line for the entire second-half.

He has explosive pace, sensationally good movement and plays with a real kind of fearlessness that we have lacked for a while at the London Stadium.

Crysencio Summerville was a great player for Leeds, so I’m not sure why Paul Merson thought he would struggle for West Ham.

It’s great to see him prove the pundit wrong nonetheless.
