Paul Merson gets it so wrong with completely misinformed ‘bordering on shocking’ West Ham rant

Paul Merson has aimed a woefully misguided rant at West Ham United, and he’s completely missed the point yet again.

David Moyes is under real pressure in his role as West Ham manager right now, but as things stand the board are not yet ready to sack him, although they will not be handing him a new contract any time soon either.

Paul Merson seems to have completely missed the fact that we are on such a poor run of form, as many other pundits have as well.

West Ham haven’t won a game in all competitions since December 28th, and we’ve scored just one goal from open play during that period.

The Hammers really are at sixes and sevens right now, but Merson just can’t see how this is what West Ham have become as a team under Moyes…

Paul Merson gets it so wrong with West Ham rant

The well-renowned pundit was speaking on Sky Sports News about the current situation at West Ham.

And Merson explained how he was surprised that Moyes made a couple of changes for the Forest game:

“I’m surprised he made changes. I thought he might just play the same team and say ‘Get on with it’, you know? ‘You get yourselves out of trouble.’ They let him down [against Arsenal]. It wasn’t a David Moyes team. Some of the decision-making was bordering on shocking. West Ham teams, you don’t expect to get done at set plays. Everything was wrong about them. This is a game where Forest fans will turn up and say ‘It’s West Ham, we’ll win this game.’ This is a hard game. They’ll turn up, the fans, but this is a hard game for Forest. West Ham and David Moyes will make sure this team is ready.”

This take from Merson is about as misinformed and clueless as they come, and he said the same after we lost to Arsenal last week!

Firstly, two changes was the bare minimum that needed to be made from the Scot. Personally, I would have dropped Kurt Zouma and Nayef Aguerd as well.

Secondly, this is EXACTLY what a West Ham team under Moyes looks like. The Scot claims we’re not flaky anymore, but I think that’s exactly what we are.

We’ve shipped 44 goals in 25 Premier League games this season. For a manager who prides himself on defensive solidarity, that record quite simply isn’t good enough.

And after the misguided Merson rant on West Ham, it’s time that he and other pundits wised up to the fact that we’re an easy team to play against under Moyes right now.
